When I’m not writing headlines I enjoy cooking, pickling, and making cider. I call them Martisinal creations. Yes, it’s a terrible pun and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Cider

I’ve been making cider for a couple of years. This batch was made from fresh-pressed Grevenstein apples, and left to ferment and clarify for four months. The cider in the green jug was fermented using only the natural yeast, so it’s literally fresh juice left out for nature to do the rest. It turned out to be the best cider i’ve made to date.



Pickles

I love pickles. But $10 a jar for artisanal pickles puts me in a real pickle—leaves a sour taste in my mouth… like vinegar?
